Khimsar Fort, KhimsarKhimsar is a unique destination in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan and is reminiscent of its royal past. The Khimsar Fort with its turrets and battle marked walls is absolutely delightful. Khimsar is located in the Nagaur district that is also famous for its cattle fair and attracts tourists in droves due to its color and pageantry. Khimsar is easily accessible from both Jodhpur and Bikaner.

Going back to 1523 AD, this fort had a separate Zenana or ladies section. Now, the Khimsar Fort is among the best heritage hotels of Rajasthan. The village itself is good for safaris, horse & camel riding and leisurely activities like bicycling and kite flying.


Climate:

Khimsar has an extreme climate like the rest of the country, with hot summers and cold winters. Typically, temperature during summer varies between 42.2°C and 27.3°C and between 27.5°C and 9.5°C during winters. Annual rainfall here is around 31-cm. Carry light tropical clothing for summer is light tropical and light woollens for winter.


How To Reach

By Air: The nearest airport from Khimsar is Jodhpur, nearly 92 km away. Indian Airlines has flights to Jodhpur from Delhi, Jaipur, and Mumbai.

By Rail: The nearest railhead is Jodhpur that in turn is linked to major destinations like New Delhi, Agra, Jaisalmer, Jaipur, Udaipur and Ahmedabad.

By Road: Khimsar is situated around 92 km on the Jodhpur-Nagaur-Bikaner Highway and is well connected.


Local Transport: Buses, taxis, and jeeps are easily available to visit the places around Khimsar.

Khimsar Fort - The Khimsar Fort was made by Rao Karamsiji in 1523. In the eighteenth century, a ladies wing was added to the fort according to the tradition of the times and during the 1940s.
