Nagaur Fair

Overview

The Jodhpur’s Nagaur Fair is known for being the second biggest cattle fair in India. The fair lasts for eight days and is filled with vibrant colors of celebrations, cultures and traditions. It is held every year during the month of January or February.

This Cattle fair of Nagaur involves trading of animals at a large scale. Around 70,000 bullocks, camels and horses can be seen during the fair for trading purpose. These animals are beautifully decked up with traditional fabrics and even ornaments to make them look fascinating to the buyers.

Nagaur Fair is your chance to unearth the traditions and cultures of Jodhpur. The local men can be seen wearing colorful turbans which compliment their long mustache.
Travelers can indulge in a memorable shopping experience during the fair where they can explore Mirchi bazaar (largest red-chilly market of India) apart from buying wooden items, iron-crafts and accessories made of camel leather.

The fair involves numerous activities apart from just animal trading. You can have a whale of a time while relishing games like tug-of-war, camel races, bullock races and cock fights.

  • By Air: The nearest airport to Nagaur is Jodhpur Airport about 135 km far.
  • By Rail: Nagaur has a railway station which is connected to Jaipur and Bikaner through Jaipur Bikaner Intercity Express.
  • By Road: Travelers reaching Nagaur by road can take two routes from Jaipur. The first one is via Sikar whereas the other one is via Jodhpur.
