Salim Singh Ki Haveli is a 300 years old mansion. Part of it is still being used as a residence. Originally owned by Salim Singh, a former Prime Minister of the state of Jaisalmer, Salim Singh ki Haveli as it is now called, has an arched roof with beautiful brackets carved in the design of peacocks. This is Jaisalmer architecture at its best. This haveli is an eight-storey building. It was built by Salim Singh as a pleasure palace to live with his seven wives and two concubines.
Salim Singh Ki Haveli was built in 1815 by Salim Singh who was the prime minister of the kingdom when Jaisalmer was state capital. No cement was used to build this mansion. Its stones are connected using strong iron rods.
Salim Singh Ki Haveli displays the taste and style of Salim Singh. It takes you into the history of the region and tells some noteworthy tales about Salim Singh and his life.
The historical wonder has distinct architectural features. It features a blue dome roof which looks spectacular. Visit around to explore its stone inlays, stunning wall paintings and half-timbered wall paintings. Visitors can never ignore the walls with shelf here which underline excellent craftsmanship of those times. Also, spot a chiseled screen of windows here adorned with minute details look fabulous. All these features together make Salim Singh Ki Haveli an exceptional masterpiece from the past.
The haveli is home to numerous rooms, corridors and frescoes. Earlier it had two other storeys as well. However, today it houses only five stories as the two upper levels were demolished as per the king's orders. The architectural features of Salim Singh Ki Haveli are so extraordinary that they underline the skills of the craftsmen.
