Bundi

Bundi is an undiscovered destination of royal Rajasthan. It has historical monuments, a unique school of painting and numerous step wells carved out of stone in a distinct fashion, that make Bundi a unique destination.

Bundi and Kota are considered twin cities as they are extremely close by. The entire region was ruled by one clan, until the territory that later became Kota separated in 1579. This entire region was ruled by Hada Rajputs; consequently the region was known as Hadoti. The Meena tribe people were the original residents of this area. Prithviraj Chauhan was defeated by Sultan Mohammed Ghauri in 1193 AD. Subsequently, some Chauhan nobles took shelter in Mewar while other young warriors moved on towards the Chambal valley and overpowered the Meena and Bhil tribals. Thus, the princely state of Bundi came into being.

Bundi has medieval forts and palaces. Its Taragarh Fort or the Star Fort even charmed Rudyard Kipling! The step wells, also called baoris were an important source of water but now are known for their exquisite stone carvings.

Bundi is an excellent destination for a leisurely and luxurious holiday.

Tourist attractions in Bundi

Phool Sagar - Phool Sagar is an artificial lake so called because of the palace on its banks. The work on Phool Mahal or Flower Palace was started in 1945 but never completed. It is still in the incomplete state and the descendants of Maharaja Bahadur Singh who started building it, still live here.
