Urs at Galiyakot, Udaipur

Galiyakot is a village in Dungarpur, Rajasthan on the banks of Mahi River. Galiyakot is located 160 km away from Udaipur. Dawoodi Bohras, a sect of the Ismaili Shia Muslims, hold Galiyakot in high esteem. They congregate at the memorial of the revered saint, Sayyed Fakhruddin for pilgrimage. This pilgrimage is called Ziyarat. The mausoleum is called Mazar-e-Fakhri.

27th day of Moharram, the first month of the Muslim calendar, is the day marked for this commemoration. People visit the shrine to ask for boons and blessings and also for thanksgiving.

According to custom, flowers and lamps are used to decorate the tomb. Passages are read from the holy book Koran and prayers are offered by all. Free community lunch is organized for all devotees. Devotional songs are also sung in the praise of the saint.

The nearest railway link is at Dahod, on the Delhi-Mumbai rail line and the 96 kms distance from here to Galiyakot can be covered by bus.
