Mount was the summer capital of the royals of Rajasthan. It is the only station in the state, in fact in the entire north-west region of India. Rulers of nearly all the erstwhile princely states of Rajasthan built their summer palaces in Mount Abu. Almost all of them are now functioning as heritage hotels.
Although Mount Abu started with Hindu rulers and has several Hindu temples, it is most famous for the Dilwara Jain temples. The Dilwara Jain Temple complex is known the world over and is a major Jain pilgrimage centre. Made of marble, these temples have exquisite and unique carvings.
Situated in the Aravali mountain range, the beautiful hill station of Mount Abu is host to its highest peak the Guru Shikhar, at 1722 meters above sea level. Several lakes, waterfalls and awesome valleys with lush greenery complete the beauty of picturesque Mount Abu.
Mount Abu also has a fantastic wildlife sanctuary that is now an eco-zone. Species like langur, wild boars, Sambar, leopards and many more make their home among the flowering trees of this sanctuary.
Mount Abu is a serene and charming place for a luxury holiday. Whether you are a honeymooner, a wildlife enthusiast, an eco-tourist, a spiritual traveler or just seeking some rest and recreation. Mount Abu has something for all. |
