Lake Palace, UdaipurUdaipur, the city of lakes, also known as Venice of East, is experienced as one of the most romantic places on earth. Udaipur is surrounded by Aravali hill ranges and has five beautiful lakes. Its palaces, forts, havelis, temples, gardens speak a volume of its rich heritage and culture. This beautiful city was founded in 1559 AD by Maharaja Udai Singh. The Suraj Pol or the Sun Gate is the main entrance to the City besides four other gates. The Lake Palace in the middle of Lake Pichhola is an outstanding example of elegant beauty and architectural splendor.


How to reach Udaipur
City of Udaipur is well connected by Rail, Road and Air.


By Air:
Udaipur has a good network of air services linking it to from New Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ahmedabad, Aurangabad and Mumbai. Dabok Airport, 21 km from the city centre, is the closest airport.


By Train:
It is well connected to and from all the major cities of India such as Chittorgarh, Ajmer, Jaipur and Delhi by trains. Palace On Wheels is a major attraction that passes through Udaipur. The railway station is 4 km from the heart of the city.


By Road:
The roads are smooth and link Udaipur to various major cities of India such as Delhi, Jaipur, Chittorgarh, Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Indore, Kota, Mount Abu and Mumbai. Bus services link Udaipur to Gujarat, Delhi and major cities of Rajasthan. The bus terminal is two km from the railway station. Ample taxis are available.

Best time to go
The best season to visit Udaipur is October to April. Winters are pleasant and rainfall is scanty even during rainy season. In summers, temperature reaches 40 degree Celsius.

 
 

Tourist attractions in Udaipur

City Palace - City Palace of Udaipur is actually a series of palaces, built from 1559 AD onwards. City Palace stands on the banks of Lake Pichola and has outstanding views of the city, the Jag Niwas (also called Lake Palace) and Jag Mandir.

Urs Galiyakot - Galiyakot is a village in Dungarpur, Rajasthan on the banks of Mahi River. Galiyakot is located 160 km away from Udaipur. Dawoodi Bohras, a sect of the Ismaili Shia Muslims, hold Galiyakot in high esteem. They congregate at the memorial of the revered saint, Sayyed Fakhruddin for pilgrimage.

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary - Situated besides the majestic Kumbhalgarh Fort, this sanctuary has an area of 578 sq km. The Aravalis hills provide shelter to sloth bear, leopard and flying squirrel. It is also the only sanctuary where the Indian wolf is breeding successfully.
