Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, Udaipur

 

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, Udaipur Kumbhalgarh is extremely accessible from Jodhpur, being a mere 90 km away on the Udaipur - Pali - Jodhpur road. The sanctuary is very large, having an area of 578 sq km and its parts are located at an altitude of 500m to 1300m. The Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary is in the most rugged section of the Aravali mountain range. It takes its name from the majestic Kumbhalgarh Fort that is in the vicinity of the sanctuary.


The wildlife here is diverse and also includes several endangered species. The animals here include wolf, leopard, hyena, sloth bear, jackal, nilgai, chinkara and more. Even birds like grey jungle fowl, peacocks, golden oriole, grey pigeons, and white breasted kingfisher comprise the bird life here.


Trekking on foot and horse safari are the best ways to explore Kumbhalgarh sanctuary and enjoy its natural beauty. The safaris typically start from the Kumbhalgarh Fort and goes on to Ghanerao. Chhinkaras, Neelgais, four horned Antelope and several birds can be spotted on this route.


The climate inside the sanctuary is pleasant, ranging from 23C to 37C during summer and 9C to 29C during winter. The sanctuary provides relief from the heat of Udaipur and is extremely popular with visitors for its beauty and diversity of plant and animal life. The closest airport is Udaipur. Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary is accessible by air from Mumbai and Delhi till Udaipur and thereon by rail and road.
