Ranthambhor National Park, Jaipur

 

Ranthambhor National Park, Jaipur A part of the Project Tiger, the Ranthambor Tiger Reserve is the most filmed tiger reserve in the world. Even though the main attraction here is tigers roaming around openly in their natural habitat, Ranthambor is also a picturesque place with its fortress and lakes.


Ranthambor has deciduous forests and a varied topography. The jungle that forms the Ranthambor tiger reserve is majestic and once stretched up to central India. Ranthambor is at the edge of the Thar Desert and is surrounded by both Aravali and Vindhya mountains. Apart from a large tiger population, the national park is also home to animals like the jackal, mongoose, sloth bear and leopard.


The earlier name of Ranthambor was Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary. Ranthambor has both evening and morning safaris. The park is open from October to June. The Tigers here are diurnal and are spotted here very easily. Ranthambor also has a large number of marsh crocs and reptiles such as Snub Nosed Marsh Crocodiles, Desert Monitor Lizards, Tortoise, Banded Kraits, Cobras, Common Kraits, Ganga Soft Shelled Turtles, Indian Pythons, North Indian Flap Shelled Turtles, Rat Snakes, Russell’s Vipers, Saw-scaled Vipers and the Indian Chameleon.


There are abundant water bodies in Ranthambor that attract over 272 species of birds, making it a delight for bird watchers as well. There are over 300 species of plants and trees here.


Ranthambor has ample good quality and heritage hotels for a comfortable stay. Communication facilities are also easily available.


How to reach:

Ranthambor is easily accessible from Jaipur and Kota that are the nearest commercial and charter airports respectively. It is also well connected by a railway link to major cities. The distances are from Delhi - 362 km, Agra - 227 km, Bombay 1027 km, Kota - 108 km and Jaipur - 132 km. Ranthambor can also be reached by road from Jaipur, Delhi and Agra.


Climate:

Rantahmbor is closed only during monsoon. Carry light clothing for summer and woolens for winter.
